JATC - Application Process
1. Complete Application
- All applicants must meet the minimum requirements for apprenticeship
- The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) will accept applications for apprenticeship Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. Applications will be accepted at IBEW Local 106, 322 James Avenue, Jamestown, NY 14701
- Applications must be completed at the Union Hall in person
2. Aptitude Test
- Aptitude tests are given as needed.
- If you meet the basic requirements, you will be scheduled to take the NJATC Aptitude Test Battery. The test battery consists of two tests. It will take approximately two and a half hours to complete
- Results for the Aptitude test take approximately two to four weeks
- Applicants must receive a minimum score of 5 to qualify for oral interview
3. Oral Interview and Ranking
- You will be interviewed by a committee representing both NECA and the IBEW. Based on the interview, and a review of your qualifications, you will receive an overall ranking score
- Your name will be placed on an eligibility list for two (2) years
4. Acceptance
- In July of each year the JATC takes the necessary number of applicants off the eligibility list in order of ranking score
- If you are not selected to begin an apprenticeship during the two-year period, you will need to reapply if you are still interested
- Upon acceptance all applicants are given a list of required documents proving they meet the minimum qualifications for apprenticeship
- Examples of required documentation may be
- Valid driver’s license
- Birth certificate
- Proof of residency
- High school and college transcripts
- Military discharge papers

- Upon acceptance applicants are required to take a drug test and physical examination
- Apprentice begin work in July and begin classes in September
